We're glad you want to know more about Corruption and Bribery in India. We'll send you a weekly update on the latest happenings on I Paid a Bribe. We promise we won't ever sell or give away your information.
I applied for Renewal of Trade License on 30/4/2013 by taking a DD for Rs. 3000/- as Renewal License fee in BBMP favour. It was tough time to trace the BBMP Office as it had shifted and there was no notification of the same.
When i went to the concerned BBMP office at Austin Town, Bangalore, the officer incharge of Birth and Death (as the concerned Health Inspector was not there at that time) asked me to pay Bribe to the cashier to remit the License Fee. I paid 50/- rs. to the cashier and had to wait for 35 minutes to get the receipt.
Later i had to followup with the Health Inspector for almost 45 days and today i got the renewal, which is just an entry in the original certificate with seal. Today the Health Inspector demanded 1500/- rs. but finally i negotiated for 500/- rs. and got it done.
One surprising fact is there is no information about Vigilance cell contact details in the BBMP Website nor in the local Austin Town Office.
today i asked one of my known person for arranging me some packets of coins from sbi main branch i was told by that person that the person incharge there will ask for one bottle of alchohol as a bribe for issuing that packet even after paying all the amount of the cost of that packet
While travelling from Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh to Bina a place 139 KMs from Bhopal, as it was a unplanned journey, I had to travel along with my wife and kids, with a unreserved ticket. The price I paid for the ticket was around Rs 140.00 and with reservation it is not more than Rs 450. As it was hardly few minutes for the train to depart from Bhopal Station, we boarded in a reserved, sleeper coach. During the visit of TTE (till then we have crossed the half of the way to our destination) I voluntary revealed that I am travelling with a ticket of general class and I am willing to pay the difference amount of the cost of tickets. Primarily the TTE denied stating that there is no vacant seat in the same coach, and I will have to change the same and I can continue travelling in the same coach by just paying Rs 200.00 extra (that would be without any official receipt) instead of Rs 240.00. I insisted on paying the full amount with the official receipt and was willing to continue travelling in the same coach as my wife had a place to sit.
While I forwarded him a note of Rs 500.00 with an expectation of getting a return of the change of Rs 260.00 and the receipt for the amount, he smiled and said “ SIR AAP TO SEAT BHI NAHI LE RAHE HE, ME PURE PAISE KAISE LE LU” he just moved ahead returning me the balance of Rs 300.00.
The dates could be wrong.
I own a Maruti Swift. I misplaced/ lost the RC book. I approached the RTO office in KR Puram. I was very impressed and amazed to note that throughout the process, not once was I approached by any tout, nor was there any demand for any favours/bribe. I got the RC book in a total span of 30-45 days by speed post. Thank you RTO KR Puram.

I am part of prestigious organisation, which provide training to students and try to place them. This time I got a training from Labour department. After providing training to 200 students for 2 months. Labour officer came of inspection and asked us to pay 10% of total fees. My organisation denied to pay the same. But labour officer has threatened us to create issues. My director is not ready to pay a single rupee. This will cause loss of our total fees which is more than 4 lacs.
The RTO Electronic City branch is in shambles. Filthy sacks of cement lie along with broken chairs, dumped under a horrible stand, the only place to keep papers on, that you have to sign. I have been driving for over 30 years. Since my return to India, I wished to renew my expired license. I loathe the experience. No clear chart about how much to pay, and for what. You have to trust an agent when he says "Ma'am, they may fail you because..." "Up to you ma'am, how much do you want to pay? Then everything will be taken care of." I loathe that citizens have to be in this ugly dilemma. I HATED the place so much I paid up never to come there again. The 'driving test' was a farce. The inspector didn't see how well I drove. I didnt get any feedback. Pass? Fail? The agent told me I passed because of the money I gave them. Who pocketed it? I don't know.
I am ready to pay even Rs2000 for renewal but it must be CLEAR AND TRANSPAREnt what I am paying for. And that the money goes to IMPROVING the filthy public premises. What a shame.
