We're glad you want to know more about Corruption and Bribery in India. We'll send you a weekly update on the latest happenings on I Paid a Bribe. We promise we won't ever sell or give away your information.
I recently shifted from My village to Hyderabad,i have all my house hold items, for that, to avoid the unnecessary checking at checkpost near hyderabad, I took goods transfer clearance certificate from gram panchayath, they demanded Rs.300/- bribe, other wise they won't issue the clearance certificate, i am helpless, paid Rs 300/- as bribe.
I have shown all the documents required for the documentation. and everything was perfectly fine. But still i was asked to pay Rs 600/- ( though i was a student)in the name of karcha pani. ( i dont remember the inspector's name). I asked him about the intelligence and all and the guy was talking all the good things around with regards to no bribe and other stuffs. and before he left he himself asked for money. It happens with every one. Count the number of passports in India and i can assure that they have paid the bribe to Inspecting officer (for varification), postman for delivering it.(they don't give it unless we dont pay them the amount. inside passportoffice if the passport is stuck.am ready to face anyone in case anyone challenges. I support you sir whole heartedly
This has become a very normal practice in my native place Nellore to pay a Bribe to get things done.
I applied for a passport by the end of my engineering course. It was well-known to everyone that the police guy who comes for verification will expect to get his pocket filled. Otherwise you are not verified and passport is delayed for no reason.
So when this police came to my house for verification I directly asked him How much do you want ? He was very happy with this question and asked for 700 rupees. So the bargain went till 500 rupees. And more surprisingly his explanation was "Ab nahi toh kab do ge. Amount dedo na!!".
I was on Rajadhani express. My friend who had to be on same train to reach Hyderabad for catching flight, the next day to Korea, could not reach the station on time, because of heavy Bangalore traffic. So I had to pull the ********** reluctantly, for which the Railway police booked a case against me. My friend got into train but I had to stay back for the hearing of the case. And for the getting the case to the railway court, I had to pay 100 Rs to the attender, 400 Rs to railway inspector and finally the fine amount, which was just 100 *******
i dont know how to start, i am first of all terribly ashamed of being a part of this system, i was given information through my close friends that a person who allegedly knows a recruitment racket at NTPC bangalaore office can give a govt job for management trainess, i was unemployed then and i am also one of those who got affected due to the scam at ********** computers... i thought i could find a decent and secured job once i paid the money he demanded but months have gone by and finally i realized how many good opportunities i missed in the time between, even i couldn't apply for the same NTPC MT post when there was a notification on news papers, as i already paid bribe to get through , when everything was over the people at NTPC office told me through the third person with whom i am in contact that people are willing to pay more than 2 laks and what i paid was very less, so i told them that i don't want to continue this act and want my money back , but they did not return my amount,i request all the job aspirants to please be patient , don't enter into such situations , we know there is a lot of pressure on us but it nothing when we realize once what we have done. now i am happy with what i am earning decently and legally ...

I was asked to pay a bribe of 200 rupees to get a residence proof certificate from my town's MRO. Though I did'nt pay, still I would like to report this incident because this is the first time I learned of BRIBE.
I was very young when this happened and this was my first experience to an excellent introduction to our bribery system of getting things done.
I needed a Residence proof certificate to enter into my Engineering course and went by myself to get an attested one from the revenue officer of my region.
My application was kept aside every day and I was told that MRO is busy and I shall come tomorrow. This happened for a week and I understood the situation completely as I watching others and their work was getting done easily.
Then I promised to give some amount and my work was done immediately the next day. It was my turn to pay. I said, I will first check the certificate and then pay. The officer agreed and handed over the certificate to me. I took the advantage of the situation and started walking away from his counter.
This is when he came running and shouting at me for his unpaid bribe. By the time he reached me I was in the middle of other public who were there in the office waiting for their documents and i have that certificate of mine in my pockets.
This confused him and he has nothing to ask me. And his biggest problem was that he cannot ask for money in public. So thinking about his situation I happily asked him what do you want !! Nothing was the answer.
I came happily and went ahead to join my engineering course!!!
