At Mumbai airport i was stopped by custom officers and they checked my baggage (That's normal process...). I had my 5 years old Sony DSLR camera with me which i paid £350 in 2005 and i wasn't carrying my invoice (No one does if that item is that old...). Officers asked me to pay duty for it. I asked them to make an entry in my passport instead as it is my personal item which i will be taking back to UK with me. They declined it. So i asked i will pay for the duty as i was getting late for my connecting flight. To find out cost for that camera Instead of checking on UK based sites, they started checking on other country sites... (To find expensive piece)... after wasting 30 more minutes they calculated that i should pay £75 for custom duty... (Not sure how they calculated and on what bases...). I also agreed to it and asked them to take money from my Credit Card.... At this point i realized that they definitely want BRIBE... as they declined to take payment from my Credit Card and asked for Cash only... I said i want to see your senior officer... (Here comes big surprise...). They took me to a senior officer cabin where instead of following LAW senior officer directly asked me to pay £20 and go. (For very first time i started hating my own country - INDIA...)... After lot of arguments they agreed on £10... HUH... Very disappointing experience.
A licence from municipality is a basic document required to get other licences to do business.
I am into food business and one of the requirement to get a licence from food safety department is a licence from corporation. I took a commercial building (a shop) for rent and applied for corporation licence for that building at Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Health Inspector's Office, Poonthura. The rented building despite being a commercial one, the officer there insisted that it was a residential building according to their records. They said, the building I applied for was a 2BHK house and that it will take months of roaming around offices to get the thing corrected. I knew that they were playing a game. They interchanged the TC numbers of my shop with that of that shop owner's home; from whom I rented the shop.
My tax consultant had earlier mentioned that nothing moves at Thiruvananthapuram Corporation without paying heavy bribes. Getting a licence was my requirement; I cannot do business without getting this basic licence. I told them, "Sir, no matter what, please, some how get this corrected." He said, it will take Rs 5-6,000 to get it corrected. I said "OK, please do it."
On that day, I gave them a total of Rs 6,000. I received the licence the next day morning. Rs 500 was additional paid to the peon who handed over the licence. Out of the 6,500 paid, Rs 200 was the actual licence fees; The rest was bribes.
Hi,
Date:04/09/2012
Place: ABB junction ,White Field Road,Madhavpura,Bangalore.
After finishing my shift at 9 pm i was returning back to my home in my bike crossing the junction at ABB office near mahdevpura i just say there are 4 seconds left and still showing green signal then i cross the junction. even after me many guys cross the junction in some distance two traffic police guys were standing and one guy ask me to stop, i stopped my bike he ask me license and i gave him and asked him for the reason stopping me, then traffic inspector said i jumped the signal i said still 4 seconds were remaining when crossed, he was not ready to listen to me, i told him if any camera installed there please review then also he was not ready to accept then he asked me bribe of 100 ,i told him i will not pay ,he replied ok i will send notice to you ,i replied ok i will complain to higher Authorities ,he said go and tell we will see they will accept your word are mine i left the place and waiting for the notice to come
while coming back from the shift i always observed that these two traffic police guys will be standing near to the ABB junction and demanding bribes and negotiating the bribe amount.
My question is in morning time when heavy traffic will be there, many guys are struggling to cross this junction but no traffic police wala will be there to manage traffic, in night time that too after 8PM when there is minimal traffic these guys will suddenly appear and start demanding the bribe that no violations if you say i wont pay then they will say ok i will send notice to you,
my request to the higher authorities please utilize these guys in day time so to make smooth traffic movement
I had shifted from Chennai to Bangalore recently and brought my TN registered car along. As required by the law I decided to re-register the vehicle with Bangalore RTO but given the tedious process was asked 4000/- by agents to get the same done. I did not pay a penny and although it took me 1 month to get things done but atleast I did not contribute to the corruption in the system.
I lost my wallet and along with it lost my driving licence. The first requirement for applying for a duplicate driving licence copy is that you need an FIR. Since I stay in Wadad (Pune), I went to the Wakad police chawky. I was made to wait there for 2 hours citing reason that the officer responsible for issuing the FIR had not yet come to office (This was at 12 noon). After getting thoroughly frustrated I decided to ask how much money would be required to get the FIR. The officer who had initially asked me to wait promptly asked for 200 Rs ( I actually even tried bargaining) but when I realized they would not relent I gave up and paid the money and was duly issued the FIR
I'm **************, M.Tech student at Poncicherry University. I was expecting for police verification after submitting my passport application on 3rd Aug 2012. On 3rd Sep 2012 I got call from a person that we are calling from passport office for verification. He told me to come to the University gate 1 tomorrow morning 7'O clock. I went there with all my originals and a photo copy of all with a mind of not to bribe because I came to know from other students that the police (Munusami, his ph no is +91- ******* ) will ask money. He came late by 7:20 not in uniform too, I gave him a bunch of my photo copies and he didn't even verified my originals neither he gothrough my photo copies. He just asked me what are u studying and fathers occupation and wrote it in a form, then he took signature from me at two places and asked for money. Give me Rs300 like, I told him that I didn't bring money with me, for what should I need to pay?, he told I have to send this paper in speed post, I replied that I paid Rs1000 while applying why should I need to pay, will you give reciept?. He said no recipt for this, he asked me again meanwhile he stated his two wheeler also. I kept silent, He threatened me let me see how you will get passport and he left. I felt bad and came to my room with a big question in my mind that will I get my passport?.
I went to Noida railway reservation counter for booking ticket. I was shocked to see only one counter had booking staff rest staff where enjoying chatting and where not interested in getting back to counter. When my number turned up the booking clerk asked to pay him some amount (as I wanted to book Lower berth as preference). He said he can search for it only if I pay him something. I didn't commit anything. Once booking was done he asked me pay 1500. Once I left counter I saw ticket was for 1200 only. when I went back to ask for refund he confidently told me he has paid me back .. wow now you pay bribe to book rail ticket. :)
Today, I paid Rs 100 as bribe for traffic rule violation at Noida. I tried to settle for fine but they were saying it can't be setteled here and were asking to submit RC/License and later get them from court..
I am from Goa with quite a long Portuguese Name. And government officials goofed up my father's name in every document. My fathers name was different in my Ration Card, electricity bill, School Certificate as well as his voter's ID card and death certificate.
I went to an agent and even they said that I should have a drivers license with father' s name same as in my Certificates.
Suddenly I got an opportunity to go to UK in next 25 days. I knew I couldnt get my passport done legally for no fault of mine. So I went to an agent who recommended me to do tatkal and pay his fees. I paid him 8000 Rs for all the procedures. His modus operandi was: Monday evening: I met and filled the form online.
On Tuesday: form filling and submission of all documents I had in passport office line. I had to arrange my passport in a special format with documents placed in a special way. I even created an affidavit for name correction.
On Wednesday evening: Went to my Police Station and verified myself and told my agents name to the officer. They knew him. They asked just verbally whether I have done anything wrong. I said no. This was completed.
on Thursday: The agent said that the file from my Police station to Commissioner's office will take 2 days and then they ll verify and send it to Passport office. I said whether it is possible for me to submit it myself? On which he replied No. but I can go there and talk to a person. So I went there in commissioner's office to ********** this officer. He asked my name and then coolly asked me to write my details on a register after leaving around 14 lines. As per him, those are for the people who are before me. This guy said u can go to Passport office for final round tomorrow.
Friday: I went to passport office and sat in line. In 1 hour was inside the office. But the passport officer checked the file and looking at it he said, how is it possible that this file is completed within 3 days?? I said I have given tatkal and that I am in emergency to go. Maybe he sensed something wrong.
He called me on Monday.
Monday: He saw my file and accepted and I got my passport within 10 days. This enabled me to go to UK. I never regretted I paid bribe for passport because this would have never happened if the government officials when writing my father's name in Marathi, had pronounced english words incorrectly. The same happened for my Mom and my brother. We had to go through an agent as we had no other choice to get our own passports. While millitants get multiple passports, genuine Indians like me have to go through Hell
