We're glad you want to know more about Corruption and Bribery in India. We'll send you a weekly update on the latest happenings on I Paid a Bribe. We promise we won't ever sell or give away your information.
"Don't you pay tip to the hotel waiter" said the policeman when I refused to pay bribe, I said " that is the difference, you are not equivalent to waiter, you are much more than that, I have great respect for you, I am safe because you are there, I salute you" and I literally saluted him. The policeman explained how he has to bribe "higher-up", but finally I managed to explain to him how it was not about Rs.100. and it was about principles. Not sure what happens to my passport status.
I was asked to pay a bribe of Rs.6000 by the assistant labour officer for renewal certificate i.e after i paid all the challans and submitted all the documents. He typed in the calculator an amount of 6000 and showed me. I told i wont be able to pay and u can verify the documents and let us know if we need to submit anythg else.
I do not remember the name of officer.
But this is a common practice in labour office and can be checked by anytime going there.
On behalf of Resident Welfare Association I was required to hand over Demand Draft towards pro-rata charges to Cashier in BWSSB office , Yelahanka, Bangalore. The cashier while accepting the DD, shamelessly demanded fifty rupees for giving me the receipt for the DD. He was also making it very clear that he will not accept the DD if the bribe was not made. This was done openly in the office. The cashier sits next to the Manager outside AEE cabin
A police inspector Nagaraj walked into my office and asked for Rs. 5000/- for 100kg rice for his relative marriage - the family is poor according to him. I brought down the amount to Rs. 1000/- and paid him. Not sure about his antecedents but he was demanding.
Mr. Bhalekar, powai police station, a police man did my police verification for passport without asking for money. Kudos Bhalekar.
He called me in December on my phone to come for verification. I was travelling that time, hence told him that i would meet him in first week of January.
When i went there with my wife (since both of us had applied for renewal of passport) he handled us with professional care. He verified details without wasting any time.
At the end he thanked us for coming for verification. (We were sweetly surprised at the soberness).
He did not hint for any thing, did not take anything...
I saw your article in Today's Mumbai mirror so I thought to share one of my very fresh today's experience with Mumbai central GRP personnel
I was going for my workplace from vasai to lower parel so I normally take a slow train from Mumbai central. today I was running out of time so I decided to cross the railway track and jump to platform no1 and I did that as soon as I reached platform no 1 a middle aged man came to me and said "Bahut jaldi hai cross karne ki " before I could I ask him anything he took me to the office where many others were also present.
then I got to know and I started explaining my part and said sir I have to open my store at 10:30 am but nobody listen to me and one of the constable named Mr. sharma sitting there started murmuring " aaj to tumne bahut badi galti kar di itni badi galti to kasab ne bhi nahi ki hogo balki tumne to kasab se bhi badi galti kardi aaj to tum gaye.
inspite of many request they did not heard anything and took us to Bombay central's police room which is attached to platform.and there came the other officer to whom we requested and said for some chai pani but he said nahi chai pani nahi but I can do one "aaj subah hi mene ek admi pe case banaya hai jisse mene 1000/- security deposit liya hai, isme me ek kaam kr skta hu ekhi case me me do admiyo pe bana dunga tum dono 500-500 dedena security deposit per case me ek hi admi pe banaunga jispe case banega vo kal 12:00 pm c 1:00pm k bichme aake court me millega jisme c 500-600 rs fine lagega of 400/- rs tumhe wapas mil jayenge or agar kal nahi aana chaho to koi baat nahi ye 1000/- rs court me jama ho jayenge. we said ok
then he asked me for ID proof and started writing my name on a piece of paper which was actually not any government paper infact it was a Xerox paper of any of the government paper and noted down my name, add, contact no etc and took money from us when I asked for the receipt or the Xerox copy of the form he said it is not required tum kal aajao idhar hi me yahio rahunga. since I was getting very late so I did not argue with him and left from there.
See I am not worried about the money but worried that my detail should not be used to frame me in any false cases.
If you are planning to print this news on your paper then I can give you detail information on it.
I am an NRI and visit visit India once in an year. Its shame to call the people with white dress in the arrivals as Customs officers.
They wait for an opportunity to steal/blackmail passengers in order to grab money for nothing.
Dont they care about the CCTV cams? Their superiors are not reponsible for this cheating?
Kindly do something and save Indias respect and punish this VULCHERS. thanks in advance
Is there a fine for having an expired pollution certificate?
If so, how much is the fine we have to pay?
Can an ordinary police man (the one with a brown uniform) demand to see our car's pollution certificate?
Can he fine us for that or is it only the traffic police that can do that?

The police officer, Mr Magre of Govandi police station, who visited my house to verify my passport application details was very straightforward.
He requested us to come to the police station at 11.oo am the next day, since the register had to be signed.
When we went there at 11.00 am he was waiting for us.
He was very polite, courteous and professional. He completed the formalities in quick time and we thanked him for his help.
He said that the verification would be sent the next day to the CID office and it was done so.
He was more professional than well trained hospitality officers in 5 star hotels !!
A very pleasing experience for myself and my wife.
