Passport Police Verification

It was for the passport of my wife. I was surprised the police called the same night when she had the appointment and since we had not reached home they asked us to come to the station. Upon visiting the station we were told the verification is electronic hence they will come home sometime. The call come at 22:00 hours and police asked me to come out of house. They took the documents and once done demanded what he termed a fee. I behaved unsure and asked what the fee was and he said its Rs 500. I had 200 in pocket and he took it and left dis satisfied. I am not sure if Passport will be processed.
