New Delhi, March 25 (IANS) A court here on Wednesday recorded the statement of DMK leader M. Karunanidhi's wife Dayalu Ammal and five others in connection with money laundering related to 2G spectrum allocation case.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Judge O.P. Saini recorded the statement of Ammal, Bollywood producer Karim Morani, Kalaignar TV's P. Amirtham and of companies Swan Telecom, Cineyug Films and KTV, accused in the case.

A draft copy of the questionnaire containing 400 questions was supplied to the accused on March 4, which they had to answer as part of their statement in the case.

Ammal's statement was recorded by her lawyer Sudarshan Rajan after defence counsel and senior advocate Shunmugasundaram told court that she has been granted exemption from personal appearance in court on account of her advanced age and age-related ailments on August 20, 2014.

Counsel requested the court to record Ammal's statement through her counsel and submitted that they have full authority from the accused to make the statement and she would not claim prejudice on account of this in any manner in any forum.

The judge also found it convenient to record her statement through advocate Rajan and allowed the plea.

The court on February 26 concluded recording of statements of prosecution witnesses.

It had on October 31, 2014, framed charges of money laundering against Raja, Kanimozhi and the others.
