Bhubaneswar, Aug 26 (IANS) The BJP Tuesday staged a demonstration here demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged multi-crore land scam in Odisha.

Accusing Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik of encouraging such "illegal acts" and not taking action against those involved, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also demanded an inquiry into the land allotments made here and areas situated close by since 2000.

The party also submitted a memorandum to Governor S.C Jamir seeking his intervention in the matter.

"The governor assured us that he will write to the government after going through the contents of the memorandum," state BJP president K.V. Singh Deo told reporters after the meeting.

The state government has been under attack from the opposition parties after a section of the media last week reported that several influential persons linked to the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) fraudulently grabbed hundreds of acres of land on the outskirts of the state capital.
