Delhi Police pulled up for failing to trace missing woman
New Delhi, March 4 (IANS) The Delhi High has pulled up city police for its failure to trace a woman, who went missing two years back from a police station, and two policemen are suspects.
Handling over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), a division bench of Justice P.K. Bhasin and Justice Najmi Waziri expressed strong disappointment on the conduct of Delhi Police for "shielding" its suspected officers.
The court asked CBI to file a status report within four weeks on the investigation and progress on the missing 26-year-old woman.
The court was hearing a habeas corpus plea of her father asking court to direct police to trace his daughter and alleging that police will never bring the culprits to book because the suspects are police officials themselves.
The court in its order said: "Despite the fact that strong suspicion was against some police officials posted at the concerned police station for their involvement in the disappearance of petitioner's daughter, and despite the fact that an FIR under section 365 (kidnapping) IPC was registered and suspected police officials stand suspended already, no positive result is coming up."
The court also questioned why no action was taken against suspected police officials.
The woman went missing from the Pul Prahladpur police station on May 23, 2012 after she was brought by a patrol car on a complaint of the manager of a local tailoring hub, saying she entered into an altercation at the office.
