Blatantly being asked for a bribe

Reported on August 9, 2013 from Kolkata , West Bengal  ι Report #35252

I was on my way back from the airport with a public bus parallel to my car. The traffic light turned red but both my car and the bus had already taken off before it did turn red.

However, whilst the bus rushed away, the cop conveniently caught hold of my car. I was so enraged by the unfairness in the system. He sent some civilian who was hired as the bribe-taker for that cop. The civilian straight up asked for a 100 bucks. I was so annoyed and I refused to pay up.

I said I know enough cops to report that stupid traffic policeman for unfairly catching us. I said to him that even the bus took off, if you think we jumped the traffic lights. You should have stopped him.

He said - You go ahead and report to whoever but for now either pay up or be taken to the cop.

How was he to prove that we were wrong or how was I to prove that we were right? In any case, I refused to pay the fine.

And he too could not be bothered with it and let us go.
