Bribe in the middle of the night!

I am a resident of Chembur and travel often by auto when I do not intend to take my car out. Here are a few observations: 1. Many auto drivers pounce on outstation passengers who alight from long distance buses at Maitri Park, Chembur, and charge them predetermined exorbitant fares. I sent complaints twice to tcmaharashtra@yahoo.com and pointed out several times to the patrolling inspectors on the bikes, but there was never a response. 2. A good proportion of autos in Chembur area have meters that are tampered with and show higher fares. Since I am a regular traveler, I know the standard charges for the distances. Whenever I have protested, the auto drivers just ask me to pay the fare I feel is right and disappear. I am sure several passengers are getting duped, day in and day out. Can the authorities not have a system of monitoring tampered meters ? sundarhcca@hotmail.com
