Refused to pray bribe..

Reported on September 15, 2014 from Chennai , Tamil Nadu  ι Report #43418

I was driving my car and approaching a signal which was still Green. Just as I was about to cross the signal, the traffic from the opposite side started moving even though they had a Stop signal (RED). This forced me to stop my vehicle right in the cross-section and clearly in danger of oncoming traffic. I hesitantly waited till the traffic cleared and moved my car further to cross the cross-section.

I was immediately stopped by a police man who was waiting at the corner of the road watching this entire incident and not even bothering to stop traffic that clearly moving even though a RED light was ON. He instead stopped me and said I was in violation of jumping a red light.

Obviously I was furious and I argued with him and told him I was not in violation and tried my best to explain to him that the traffic on the other side was in violation. He finally agreed with me that the traffic was in violation but blamed me for crossing the cross-section later when the traffic had stopped. He wanted me to stay put in the middle of the cross-section. I moved to avoid a dangerous situation with oncoming traffic finding me in their path and did the right thing to my knowledge, which is to move out of the way on oncoming traffic.

He said there were cameras recording every activity on the road and he would charge me with traffic violation. I told him if he proved me wrong, i will pay the fine.. He kept arguing and then finally ended up asking me to pay him whatever I felt was right (BRIBE).

I told him, I will pay a fine but not give him money. He said he will need to call his superior. I told him I have all day, Please call your superior. Let's see what he says. He finally backed off and let me go. I patted him on his shoulder and told him you did the right thing, I guess that made him feel a little silly :)
