I had just moved here from out of state and the real estate broker…

Reported on August 27, 2014 from Gurgaon , Haryana  ι Report #43067

I had just moved here from out of state and the real estate broker who helped find my apartment took me to DLF Phase 1 Police station at 6 PM to complete the tenant verification process. The completed form along with the signed lease agreement, my passport for address proof were submitted. The police in charge at the station(not in uniform, no name on table) took the broker aside and put his hand out. The broker handed him 200 at which point the in charge refused to take it and the broker paid 300. The policeman called me and asked about details already in the form to fill out a register. He did not even bother to enter the correct names in the register. He asked me to sign the register and stamped the papers. When we stepped out I asked the broker why he paid 300, and he said: have to pay...or else he would send you around and it would take a week. I am not sure if I would be comfortable going to a police stationing the state again. Apparently the verification process costs 500 in the Golf Course Road area.
