Bribe for police verification for passport

Well he started out as a nice guy doing his duty properly, but he was a lil rude on the phone. Then once he verified details at my place, he asked me to come to the station fr final procedures. He made me wait 2 hrs before he came to the police station, then he took me to a corner office and took the documents i had brought, then demanded address proof although i had already provided him with one. Holding onto this point, he told my application might get rejected. Then he openly asked what I was ready to give. I initially hesitated, tried to reason with him, but he was not budging. Then I paid Rs.300., basically everything I had in my wallet at that time. Then he was bold enough to say this much is not enough and to get more money, about 500 the next day. But somehow that was avoided and he approved the application. I was astonished at the boldness of the guy to have asked for more.
