Forced to pay bribe to visit house for address verification

Reported on September 26, 2016 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #124993

During the document submission for passport police verification process itself Mr Nagaraj (handles police verification at J P Nagar 2nd Phs police station, gave signals that he was expecting bribe.
He was acting very difficult to work with...created problems at every step of the way because I had not shown an inclination to bribe him.
After 4 attempts i finally had all the documents just the way he wanted it. So then he said your documents are correct. Next step is i will come to your house for a visit. When i asked when he did not give any date. he said he didnt know and that i should check with him next week on when he can come. this was a clear indication that he wanted a bribe, because while i was waiting earlier, i saw other people giving him bribe during a hand shake and he would give them a confirmation of visit date (just 2-3 days from that day).

i still did not give in. i went next week to meet him. he made me wait for 2 hours just by saying wait i will tell you date. Once he stepped out of the police station premise to take bribe from someone else who didnt want to give in open. so i also went out. when he was returning back i asked him why he wasnt giving me a visit date. he told me that i needed to pay fees (his word for bribe). so i asked him how much. he said for your case 800 rs.

i felt i had no option but to bribe because for all you know his seniors would be involved too. no point complaining.
so i had to give the bribe. then he immediately gave me a date.
he came to my house after multiple reminders. and even at my house after doing verification he asked if i could pay him some more.
he was such a shameless person.
