I was paying the road tax for my car. After paying the DD .. I was asked to get signatures from several officers. I was asked to get the signature from the transport auditor.
I first walked into the his office and said that he was supposed to audit. He asked me to wait outside as there was another person in the room. I waited outside for 5 mins and when the other person left I was called into my room. I gave him the files and he started going through them. He started nodding his head saying that the invoice of the vehicle is of a different vehicle. I was confused too. I told him this the the invoice I was given by the car dealer. He later said that all the documents are fine except for the invoice and said hat if I pay him something everything will be fine. I thought he was asking me to pay for the correction of the document legally. Later I realized that he was asking for a bribe. I told him that I don;t have any money on me and all I had was 300 rupees. He insisted on paying 1000 rupees. I asked for the file from him and checked the chasis and engine number on the RC and invoice and it was correct . I told him that it was correct and asked him to re-look. By now he was now furious and asked me to come at 3PM. At this time I knew that he would just hold up my file for no reason unless I pay him something. As I had to go to get get back to work I felt that I would rather pay him and finish up with this. He told that if I give him something he will give my file back. At this time I gave into the pressure and paid him 300 rupees
This happened in Jayanagar RTO on Aug 5th. I can recognize his name if I get to hear again and recognize him by face clearly. I searched for the Jayanagar RTO staff names but couldn't get the details. He sits in the Transport section in a room. The time was around 12 noon.
The Fact that I paid the bribe was just too much of a burden and wanted to report it someplace. Hope this will help me get rid of the guilt and brig such corrupt officers to books.
