It was my mistake that I was not carrying any documents while I…

Reported on November 12, 2014 from Bangalore , Karnataka  ι Report #46511

It was my mistake that I was not carrying any documents while I was driving a Pune registered bike around Hosa Road Junction. Have went to pick my wife from hosa road junction. As my house was nearby (not even 500 mts) I was not taking any documents along with me (Not trying to justify). A police man came across where I was waiting for my wife. He looked at me sarcastically and walked away. Stood in a distance and from there called me like as if i was already an accused person. Then the questioning starts in the order
1. Show me the license - I dont have it handy
2. Show me the papers - I know what papers means but I was not having them handy as well
Then comes the stupid question. "How long have you been in bangalore". Complicated answers, but ideally this pune registered bike of mine is here for just a months time. I told him about this and he starts talking like as if he is an RTO. I told that this is an RTO's job and not yours. Thats all the final conversation was with him. He took me to another person (my wife have already arrived and she is watching all these) and he explained the situation that "See, this "fellow" is saying that we dont have rights to ask as we are not RTO or traffic police". They wanted me to leave my bike for them to capture it. I said "Fine, give me a challan or notice so that I can produce all the documents you need in the court and I will pay the fine if any". One of them says that "We dont have the challan right now. Ride the bike to the police station, I will be coming with you". We went there (Left my wife in nowhere. Messaged her to get home by walk). There happens the miracle. An ASI asks me the similar kind of questions what the PC asked before. He won't let my bike go. We talked, I even appologized for my mistake that I haven't brought my papers. But no. They will still talk about the question I have asked on their authorization of asking for a life time tax / NOC of the vehicle. There were no one in White Topped uniform. Finally I was told that because of not carrying the papers, I will have to pay Rs. 1000 as fine. I was not carrying anything with me. All I had was a Rs 300. Meanwhile I recalled that I have to give an interview which is like in the next 20 mins. Finally a settlement came between us. He asked me to pay the 300 and give my address and particulars, and also asked me to give 300 in the morning so that my bike will not be blacklisted.
Incident Happened: Hosa Road
Police from Station: Parapana Agrahara
Time: 7:15 PM to 8:00 PM

These policemen were of crime branch. Ideally if they have asked for proof and if I don't produce, and they strongly believe that I am a "BAD PERSON", they should have got me registered under some section on doubt. I would have accepted it whole heatedly as I can prove myself later. But the entire scene was different. Their aim was to get money from me.

You know what the best part is? After I got home, my wife says that I should have behaved gently. Practically like a stupid - what kind of perspective we have in our society about the relationship between a policeman and a general public?
