I was stopped on the crossing alleging that I had jumped a red light even though I am pretty sure it was 2 seconds left when i turned the steering. I argued for some time but the police was adamant. 2 cars passed the crossing after me but they were not stopped. All my papers were in order. I finally gave in after 10-15 mins and asked him to cut the challan. I was told challan would be Rs 2000 for dangerous driving. I asked him to show the challan book/receipts to confirm the amount. Got the "Itna hi hota hai" response. The bigger issue was that I was asked to submit my license and pay the challan in court as Noida traffic police does not take cash against receipts. I paid a bribe of Rs 200 against a demand of Rs 1000. I felt really guilty afterwards.
