Parking in a street near No-Parking area

I was threatened by the Traffic police personnel for parking in a street adjacent to the No-Parking area in Velachery, near Phoenix City Mall. The personnel went on to talk about the cases he could slam against me. I was in a rush so couldn't afford to fight with him. Neither do i know about the laws. So, I was forced to pay a bribe.
