I wasn't carrying the original copy of my driver's license and was using an e-ticket to travel from Chennai to Bangalore on a second class AC compartment of the Bangalore Mail. The TTE said that I'd either be charged for ticketless travel and will have to appear at a police station in Bangalore to pay the fine (which I wasn't carrying with me) or that I could sort it out with him. He sat me on the foldable seat near the doorway to tell me this and pretended to be scolding me when some traveller passed that way. He saw that my wallet contained only a 500 note and a 50 note. When I gave him the 50 he looked at me like I had no respect for him and started throwing a tantrum. He finally took the 500 and told me that if anyone asks I was going to pay the fine in Bangalore. There was a very brief moment of concern where he wanted to know if i had enough money for myself but he didn't offer any of my money back to me. In my defense, I don't carry my original license around for fear of losing it, and I would have had to pay 1200 rupees or more if the charge was based on ticketless travel, though I had a ticket.
