While i was staying in chennai, my parents came to meet me. I took an auto from ambattur to chennai central. I told the auto guy to stop in front of a hotel where my parents were staying. At the exit area, there was sign telling rickshaws were not allowed. I never noticed that. This guy went forward and a traffic police guy stopped us. he wouldnt let me or the auto guy go. I didnt know Tamil, so i tried explaining my situation to him in hindi and english but he wouldnt listen. He asked me to pay 1000 rs. and i didnt have that much amount with me and so asked my dad to come. He came and talked to the police guy in god-knows-what tamil language. Then he told to pay 500. Dad asked for the receipt. The police wala told "500 without receipt and 1000 if you need receipt." dad paid 500 and while we were about to leave the scene i saw the police handling 100 rs to the auto guy!!! So much for the social service that they are providing!
