Ipaidabribe.com takes its fight against corruption to the govt's doorstep

Posted on June 22, 2011

While we all know that the battle against corruption has only just begun, what we do not often realise is that the winds of sweeping change will never blow furiously over our country overnight. Instead, the big victory is most likely to come out of smaller battles fought steadily and strategically.

While ipadiabribe.com was recently in the press with its structure providing inspiration for several anti-corruption websites in China, our more recent Bribe Reports on the site have also been diligently reporting bribe data from the Registration Departments. Therefore, we are pleased to announce that this effort has gained momentum with a meeting being fixed on the 25th of June with S V Ranganath, Chief Secretary of Karnataka.

On this day, ipaidabribe.com will make a presentation to him and selected invitees from the government (invited by the Chief Secretary's office). The meeting has been fixed for 12.30 pm on Saturday and will last for an hour. Alongside the Chief Secretary, other invitees will also be present. The list will comprise:

Principal Secretary, Transport, M.K. Shankarlinge Gowda Transport Commissioner, Sham Bhat Secretary, Revenue, Mr Prabhakar Inspector General of Registration and Stamps, B Shivappa Principal Secretary, Energy Department, Shamim Banu MD Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd, P Ravikumar MD BESCOM, Manivannan

Many other officials from these departments will also be attending the meeting. The discussion will revolve around corruption in the Transport, Registration and Electricity supply services, and will be the first in a series of such presentations. Since ipaidabribe.com has constantly advocated systemic change as a route towards addressing the corruption issue in our country, this meeting is significant because it not only indicates the government’s willingness to begin a constructive discussion but will also provide a valuable platform for sharing thoughts and ideas on how to tackle the issue not just from outside the system, but also from within it.
