How to Renew an Out-of-State Driving Licence that has already Expired in Karnataka

As per Section 9 (a)(i) of Motor Vehicles Act 1988, one can get his driving license renewed provided the applicant has previously held a driving license to drive such class of vehicle and that the period between the date of expiry of that license and the date of  application does not exceed five years.

 

 Further, as per Section 8 (1) (i) of the said act, he can apply to the licensing authority having jurisdiction in the area in which he ordinarily resides or carries on business.  There is no necessity for him to get NOC from Maharashtra.

 

Application for renewal of driving license can be made within 30 days from the date of expiry of driving license.  He should use application form CMV 9.

 

If a person is above 40 years of age, he needs to submit physical fitness declaration form CMV 1 and medical certificate form CMV 1A.  He should also enclose 3 recent passport size photographs and the existing driving license.  He has to pay a fee of Rs.50/- in case he files application for renewal of driving license within 30 days from the date of expiry of the driving license.  If application is made after the grace period, a fee of Rs.100/- will be levied and an additional fee of Rs.50/- for delay of one year or part thereof reckoned from the date of expiry of grace period.  In addition to the above, he has to pay Rs.215/- for renewal of PVC card.  The applicant can submit the above documents to Assistant RTO (driving license branch) having jurisdiction over his residence.
