If you don't pay the bribe, Police will harass you
I have been charged with a false 'dowry harassment' case (under IPC section 498a/406 - the usual package which thousands of innocent husbands are facing) from my legal wife, who wants to get out of the marriage but still wants to extort a lot of money from us.
When police came for investigation(from Jaipur), the investigation officer was not even ready to see our proofs and evidences which clearly showed how her complete FIR was false. He was adamant on making us guilty, and kept forcing us to do 'compromise' with the other family who had paid him a lot of money, and also offered him a big percentage of the 'compromise money' we would pay the girl's family(which would amount to some lacs of Rupees).
In fact, since we denied the money, I could never imagine what would he do - He actually changed the statements of our own neighbors, who had said that we can never do 'dowry harassment' to the girl's family's version that "Yes, we used to harass and everyone used to beat her for dowry". Hadn't we gone to one of the SPs, we would never know that.
This is not just the case with me. Every 498a case goes on this fixed path. If you don't pay the money, the Police will make you a criminal. No Policeman, I say, NO POLICEMAN in this country does an honest investigation. They are all thieves.
