We stay in Koramangala 2nd block...the oh so posh Bangalore, but the system is the same rotten corrupt one everywhere. My house drains got clogged and we had to go beg the BWSSB official to come take a look. Finally when they came, they said the drain in front of the house needs to be cleaned and they need to use suction using their truck. We asked to clean as soon as possible, since 3 other houses were also getting impacted by now and very soon the whole street would also be affected. The workers demanded Rs.4000 per house for the task. When I asked surprisigly for what, they got offended and almost went back. I asked them to please explain and they said for cleaning...and I asked, the truck is the government's, your job is paid for by the government, I can give you a tip of maybe Rs.100...if I am pleased with your effort...they laughed and clearly declined and said, "If you want it cleaned now, pay Rs.4000 or wait for 3 months and it will done in the order the complain was recieved". Well we had simply no choice and each house affected had to pay the ransom bribe. I hope there is some effect through your website...its sad we have to pay poeple over their salaries to get them to do the very jobs they have been hired to do.The British had Lagaan pre independence...we have Bakshish...post independence.
