The VAT officer refused to accept legitimate business expenses and threatened to escalate our case (for higher bribe) and also raid our premises. Asked for 1.6 Lakhs but we refused to pay that amount. She threatened to escalate and audit all the books from day 1 and drag our CA and us to the office every week for the next 2 years. The officer discretionary powers were at work all the time. Ultimately she gave the clearance certificate after moving the expenses to income and taking the bribe in cash
