Sir/ Mam,
I bought a flat which was registered in 21.03.2012 and I got the possession on 04.06.2013. When I went to pay property tax in the ward office, the officer told me that I am liable to pay property tax for 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14, amounting to more than Rs. 9000/-, which he can settler for Rs. 2200-2300/- if I pay bribe to him. I did not pay him and told that I would only pay the tax amount and penalty (if any) after verifiation from other sources. He threatened me that he would send me a notice, upon which I told him he is welcome to do that. I did not pay the tax at present. Now, my question is :
1. In case of apartment/ flat, am I liable to pay tax from the registry date or from the possession date? In case of registry date whether I am liable for the 2011-12 period also? Please let me know the Act which says so.
2. If I am to pay taxes for the past years, then what would be the penalty or interest amount over the tax?
