We were on a trip to India visiting my brother residing in pune. We were shopping in ********** Nagar and my wife found that her purse in the back pack was stolen. She had her green card, few thousands rupees in cash and several credit cards. Since we had lost our green card, we went to ********** Nagar police station to file the FIR. The police men in the station asked us to wait for the head who arrived after an hour. He would speak only in Marathi but luckily my brother was there with me to converse with him. He refused to write a FIR and was giving multitude of reasons as to why he cannot write one. At last he asked for Rs 500 for the time he spent with us and agreed to write a FIR. Since we were going to submit it to US consulate we had asked him to give the report in English for which he claimed his English ignorance and would write it only in Marathi. He asked us to come next day to collect the FIR report and we got a report in Marathi. We had to pay for translation and notarization of the report in Delhi for US consulate to accept the report.
