Obtaining a driving licence in Tiruvannamalai is simply a matter of giving your bribe of around 900.00 for a two wheeler or 1200.00 for a car licence to a local "Driving School" who pass much of this on to the RTO officer. This gets you a learning licence and after 30 days, with no test at all, gets you your full driving licence. But this is STANDARD PROCEEDURE here and throughout rural TN. Is it any wonder that mortality rates are so high on India roads when obtaining a licence is simply a matter of a small bribe!
