How to renew a Driving License in Bangalore

A Driving Licence is an official document certifying that the holder is suitably qualified to drive a motor vehicle or vehicles. Under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 in India, no person can drive a motor vehicle in any public place unless he holds a valid Driving Licence issued to him, authorising him to drive a vehicle of that particular category. The driving licence when issued is valid for 20 years after which one has to get the same renewed.

 

Criteria: A person who has been issued a Driving Licence

 

Process Requirement:

 

    1. Application for renewal of the driving licence can be made within 30 days from the date of expiry of the licence.

    2. One needs to fill in the application form in CMV 9 which is also available at the enquiry counter.

    3. For applicants who are over 40 years of age, they need to fill in the application-cum-declaration as to the physical fitness in form CMV 1 and Medical  Certificate in form CMV 1A.

    4. The physical fitness and medical certificate need to be certified by a Government doctor.

    3. Recent passport size photographs

    4. Driving licence (Book or PVC Card)

Do remember: It is better to get your DL renewed within the given grace period of 30 days, in which case a fee of Rs.50/- will be charged.  In case the application for renewal is made after 30 days, the fee for the same the stands at Rs. 100/- together with an additional fee of Rs. 50/- . This fee is charged for a delay of one year or part thereof reckoned from the date of expiry of grace period.
