Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) asking Bribe to issue CME Credit Hours

Reported on September 11, 2012 from Mumbai , Maharashtra  ι Report #34161

As you are aware, Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) located at Mumbai Central is authorized to issue credit hours for Continuous Medical Education (CME) programs conducted by accredited institutions / hospitals in Maharashtra. Mr. ******* from MMC is one of the personnel authorized to provide the necessary approvals for credit hours. In order to accept and execute requests sent by accredited institutions / hospitals, allegedly Mr. ******* solicits bribe in cash or kind from authorized representatives of such institutions / hospitals. Allegedly this bribe is meant not only Mr. ******* but also for the entire team of around 16 to 18 officials at MMC including the Registrar. It is appalling to know that the very statutory body appointed by the government to ensure renewal of registration of qualified doctors is entrenched in such corruption. I hope the concerned authorities in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare take a cognizance of this report and do the needful to stop this illegal activity.
