It is a pity you had to pay a bribe. Tired international travelers are an easy target for such officials. Next time, I think you must threaten the officials, take photographs and show them that you are conversant with the laws. Please ask them under which law they are charging you.  The website of the central excise and customs is quite informative. http://www.cbec.gov.in/cae1-english.htm They have provided a list of all the chapters, the specific goods that come under the chapters and the duty.



A laptop and an IPAD has a duty of 10%. The next time you travel, please also do some homework on the prevailing duty rates so that you are not duped into bribing an official.
