The youth was from the groom's side which was on its way to the marriage venue in Ambedkarnagar early Wednesday. Drunk and overjoyed, some people fired in the air, killing the man, a resident of village Tanda Chagurpur Mishrolia.

The victim died on the spot.

The wedding was being solemnised at the house of the village head. Police has sent the body for a post-mortem examination and a case has been registered against unknown persons, a police official told IANS.

Casualties during celebratory firing in Uttar Pradesh have been a cause of concern and the government has ordered a blanket ban on such festivities.

Orders have been in place for revoking licenses of all such weapons found to be used in such merry firing, but officials rue that the orders have not been strictly implemented.
