Ranchi, June 9 (IANS) Security forces on Friday shot dead a Maoist guerrilla in Jharkhand's Giridih district and injured another elsewhere in the state.

Police said the Maoist was killed in a jungle where two Maoist bunkers were destroyed. The police also seized two Self Loading Rifles and two magazines.

A gun battle between Maoists and security forces also took place at Galudih in East Singhbhum district on Friday.

Senior Superintendent of Police Anup Matthew said security forces rushed to the site on coming to know about the presence of some Maoist leaders.

As the police and the Central Reserve Police Force battled the Maoists, the insurgents escaped. But police seized an AK-47 rifle and claimed that a Maoist was injured in the firing.

In Khunti district, police seized 44 electronic detonators and one kg of explosives.

Maoist guerrillas are active in 18 of the 24 districts of Jharkhand.
