ASKED TO GIVE DOLLARS FOR CHAI PANI TO OBTAIN MY BAGGAGE TAGS
I live in the UK and often fly into Ahmedabad as my family lives there. On more than one occasion, security has asked me to give dollars for Chai Pani ka bandobast otherwise they will not give me stamped baggage tags without which I cannot leave airport. I told them that I was in no hurry to leave as there was no one outside to receive me (my brother was in fact waiting outside) and sat down on the officer's chair. He could see that I was not going to oblige so handed the tags to me without stamping them. I walked up to the exit and told the security fellow that my baggage has been scanned but tags have not stamped as the other officer wants money. He must have been part of it as he gave me a look of contempt and let me go. But this experience has put a fear in my heart for travelling home, as I've heard horrible stories of retribution.
