I am not an Indian citizen, but an NRI (therefore, of Indian ethnicity). I came to Delhi for a visit. I had the correct amount of luggage (no more than I was allowed). A caucasian lady standing ahead of me had the same amount of bags as I did. The police officer standing at the exit gate (in customs) allowed her to pass through without a hassle. I, however, was told to stand on the side and was not allowed through. After all the non-Indian passengers had exited. He told me I had too many bags. He then whispered in my ear to give him 30 US Dollars, and he will allow me to leave.
I refused. I said I do not have any cash with me. I also took down his name, and said that I am related to somebody in the government and he will hear from them soon.
Needless to say, he let me pass through.
So long as we give in to such buggers, corruption will never end in India. No matter how many times we protest in Jantar *******
