Independence Day "hafta"

Reported on August 24, 2011 from Noida , Uttar Pradesh  ι Report #31575

Aug 11, 2011. Two days after my license was confiscated, and hardly a few hours after I paid a bribe and retrieved it from the Noida Sector 6 station, I was caught again by a PCR van doing the rounds and looking for suspicious activity. I was inside the Sector 52 community and shifting a few pieces of luggage from one house to another, when the PCR van stopped me and asked for my license and other papers. Since it was around 1 AM and I was only doing some local shifting, I did not have the papers with me. Although I resisted giving my license at first, they took it from me on the pretext of checking for my identity. The next thing I knew, they were writing up a challan for I-don't-know-what. I resisted again and told them that I didn't have time for all of this, and that I had just retrieved my license the same day, they offered to give it back to me for INR 200. I flat out refused and offered to call my friends as backup. Realizing that they didn't have anything on me, they handed me back my license and went on their way, seeking other gullible victims.
