I was put through extra troubles and abused for not paying the bribe! But did not pay!
I have an Australian passport. I normally get license from local liquor shop at Surat while I go there to buy grog. The only document they ask me is passport.
But this time I went to liquor shop at Lords Plaza, Delhi gate to get the liquor the officer at the shop A J Rajput (PSI) Asked me for electricity bill. As you can understand it is impossible for me to produce the bill he asked me for as I am Australian citizen and have been living in Australia. With the nature of the demand being ridiculous it was clear that he wanted me to offer him money to get the license and made the process easy. Which I did not do and I got immediate response in term of contemptuous and unprofessional behavior by him and his colleague Mr Vaidh who was sitting next to him.
I left the shop and went to the liquor shop at Lalget. Where I was greeted by Ms. Haripura who said that they dont make licenses anymore and reffered me back to the Lords Plaza Shop. I had a little verbal argument over the issue.
From there I went to the liquor shop at The Gateway Hotel. This time I was ready with an electricity bill with the help of a local gentleman. Thanks to the people like him it is still possible for someone like me to find a glimpse of dignity of calling myself an Indian (A person of Indian origin).
