NO BRIBE FOR MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE

Reported on September 30, 2010 from Noida , Uttar Pradesh  ι Report #32664

I got married in June 2010 and went to Marriage Registrar office in NOIDA to get the marriage certificate. I had all my documents and two witnesses in place to complete the application process. My wife, the two witnesses and I were in for a shock when the person in charge of signing the paper work asked me to talk to his assistant in a file room next to the office. They were asking for Rs. 3100. I asked them about the logic behind this amount and why should I be paying when all my paper work was in place. After a lot of discussion (negotiation) they came down to Rs. 2100. Though Rs. 2100 would have been a small sum to pay, it sounded ridiculous for a marriage certificate. So I was determined not to give them a penny. I called one of my relative who works at High Court and narrated the situation to her. Then I asked the guy to talk to her. As expected he refused to talk and didn't want to even tell me his name. Later my marriage certificate was ready and I received it in an hour. While I was walking out of the office his assistant still had nerve to ask me for Rs. 2100. At that point I told him that he better shut his mouth and stop following me other wise I wouldn't mind burning that marriage certificate. At that point he realized that he was not getting anything from me. I had the marriage certificate and I left. I really felt good about it.
