The price of beer
Kingfisher beer has a MRP (incl all taxes) of Rs71, but all the shops round here charge Rs100. That's nearly 41% more than they're allowed to charge. In order to do this, they much have bribed the excise department or the police, or someone. I went to see an Excise Officer, and he said, "Yes, it's happening everywhere. There's nothing we can do". Yesterday, I went to the beer shop and asked for a receipt for my beer purchase. Of course, they refused, and I said that the District Collector, Mr ******* was a friend of mine, and I would report this to him. As I was writing down the name of the shop in my notebook, the price suddenly reduced to Rs71. Why don't more people stand up for their rights? Why do they carry on meekly paying 41% too much for their beer?
