Punjab Police, true to themselves.

Reported on October 28, 2012 from Patiala , Punjab  ι Report #31167

I, student of thapar university in a group of 3, on two bikes was going to have parathas at 1 am, when we were caught by police, and they asked us to show all the necessary documents. We neither had one of the bike's RC nor helmets for any of the riders. The ASI police( who was supposedly senior most at that check-post) was too drunk to get that. He continued to ask us irrelevant questions and wasting our time. When we asked for one of our bike's RC back, which he kept in the his bag(where they keep the challan book etc stuff) . He(ASI) said he believed that we never gave it to him. After reminding him where he kept the RC, he started shouting " me phuddu aa....??'' Then he asked hawaldaars to check us, which was embarrassing. (Please do tell me if they have the right to do so?). He was unable to speak, being too drunk, also could barely open his eyes. When we asked him to let us go, he asked for 8 bottles of beer ,( from a theka near bus stand, although it is also illegal to buy liquor after 10 p.m. in Patiala, Punjab. ), five for them( ASI and 4 hawaldaars) and three for us. Everyone gets one. When my fellow mate denied, he tried to slap my friend but failed, he almost fell but for the table on his side. Quite a sight it was.( **********that table).

We told him that he could take some money and let us go, he disagreed, saying only the beer could work at this point. It had been past an hour since they stopped us. We had to get out of this. So we tried to negotiate with him. We said ,'he could have two and we( on behalf of the hawaldaars too) wouldnt drink.'. But he was too concerned for his staff. SO, the deal was done for a bottle of RC(ironically a whiskey named after initials of registraion certificate). We insisted him to give us the RC(bike), which he did, by saying in-case we are caught by police on our way, we should not tell them our purpose. Never thought he'll fall for that.
