Saved by a dodgy passenger
I was travelling through customs of Delhi Airport having arrived from the UK with a British friend. On seeing us, the customs official stoppped us and scanned all our luggage. Upon finding a computer screen and portable dvd player he started calculating how much I owe in customs duty. I tried to convince him that the items were firstly broken and secondly had no resale value (they were to be fixed and given away). Luckily one of his minions came up to him and said "Boss we found a guy with a lot of watches!!", "Boss come quick we hit the jackpot!". He then let us go in search of better prospects from someone who had 30 watches in his bag!
