Sorry. But No Bribe from me Mister.

Reported on April 12, 2011 from Noida , Uttar Pradesh  ι Report #32131

I was a student at Jaypee Institute of Information Technology in Noida. After applying for passport at the Ghaziabad passport office, a police officer came after about a fortnight to verify my hostel address. He called me by phone outside the hostel premises at a corner and demanded that INR1500 be paid to him. I gave him a very shocked look. I argued with him that the passport rules do not mention of any fee for passport verification, and I had already paid the INR1000 fees for applying for a passport. He insisted that this was for a quick response from the police department. I stuck to my statement of not paying any more "fees" and said I wasn't worrying about getting delayed. He said he will then have to come one more time which he did after 2 days. This time I took a friend of mine who was a writer for our college newspaper. We mentioned to the policeman about it. That did the trick. I got my passport even before many of my friends who had paid the bribe for faster processing.
