Taking a stand makes a difference!

Reported on August 28, 2012 from Mumbai , Maharashtra  ι Report #31241

I would like to share a recent incident which occurred with me. I was travelling by Local train from Kandivali to Andheri in Mumbai. Due to heavy rush in morning hours i boarded into handicapped compartment, and railway police caught me at Andheri station for unauthorised travelling in handicapped compartment and asked me to pay fine. I admitted my mistake and showed my willingness to pay fine as per rule. But railway policeman told me to pay 500 rupees to him instead of paying 1200 fine which was decided by law (Still having doubt about this fine amount whether correct or not). But i denied to pay him and stick to pay to the govt, he tried to change my decision by saying that i have to go to court and spend 4-5 hours to pay legal fine, rather to avoid unnecessary harassment i should pay to him and leave immediately. But i was firm to my decision and told him that i am ready for it, and finally he left me giving just simple warning without any fine. But there were many others who have paid him bribe but not I. Hope every one of us refuse to pay bribe and helps in making corruption free society.
