Your point on preparing FAQs for places other than Bangalore is welcome. We are indeed aiming to have these in place. This week, our FAQ page will also become interactive and people from other places can themselves contribute to the preparation of area specific FAQs. Regarding the questions you ask, the answers are as follows:</p>

(a) The stamp duty has to be paid on the basis of the government valuation or the sale price, whichever is higher.</p>
<p>
(b) Many States have citizens charters for registration, which provide these details to the public. In many States, there are also instructions that mandate that all details of tax payable are to be displayed on notice boards in the office.</p>
<p>
(c) There is no rule that says that a sale deed must be prepared by a certified agent. You can draw up a sale deed yourself.</p>
