Reported on April 17, 2014 from Pondicherry , Pondicherry  ι Report #40568

As a foreigner living in India, I have to register my stay (if continuous for more than 180 days) with the local registration office (RRO). Doing so every year since 2011, the officials in Pondicherry have always been very helpful. Though I had to learn patience and the "nitty-gritties" of the local paperwork, as I only had experiences from Bangalore before, they had always an open ear for my misunderstandings, were always very patient in explaining the procedure and on top of it even have a friendly smile for you. And this is where I learned that mutual respect is very important for both sides and with the understanding of each others position, both sides can maximise their help in the process. I always felt that they have been very compassionate with my and other people's situations. Yes, they have lost my papers a few times, but I was never ask to bribe them, there were never any threats made (like I experienced in other places) and with united strength we always found the papers again.
The RRO in Pondicherry is by far the friendliest and most efficient government office I have set my foot in. They deserve to be acknowledged for that!
