I had applied for a passport during my final year of college at Gandhinagar, Gujarat. I applied for the passport in the prescribed manner. After 15 days I received a call for police verification of my details at the local police thana. While I was there I was taken at the corner and asked for a bribe of Rs 1000. I protested but he sad that if I did not pay the bribe I might have to wait for months to get my passport. Also, he warned that I might not get it all together. Finally, I paid him 500 Rs. He mentioned that this money will not only go in his pockets but his seniors in the Police department fill there bellies with a large cut as well.
