Driving instructor paid a bribe so that I didn't have to

Reported on March 26, 2011 from Kochi , Kerala  ι Report #25448

When I went to get my learners, I had a form that was different from the that of others (that was how obvious it was) from the same driving school because I had not paid Rs.100 to get the form. At the oral test, I answered all relevant LMV license question but then the officer proceeded to ask me questions relating to heavy vehicles when I had gone for an LMV license. He told me I had to know it and didn't issue the learners licence. The girl in my class who had not answered anything was reminded of the need to learn the answers and promptly issued the learners. I was seething with anger. My instructor went and paid a bribe and I was issued a license; he did it without my permission and then proceeded to tell me about some home truths, but he never asked me for the money back, and I never gave it to him, but I felt cheated and angry.

The RDO at that time was well known for bribe taking and had previously been transfered to a small town. He, the bribe taken had then had allegedly paid lakhs of Rupees in bribes himself to the decision makers to be transfered back to Kochi because there was much more money to be made in Kochi than in any other town in Kerala.

I have moved on from India but I still seethe
