Huge corruption at Churaibari Gate

Reported on December 26, 2016 from Silchar , Assam  ι Report #142413

Sir,

During my stint with one of the automobile manufacturing companies, I was responsible for the market development of North East Region. During that time, we used to ship cars from our factory to the dealership in South Assam and Tripura. Any transport to Tripura has to go through Assam via Churaibaari gate, situated at Assam - Tripura Border. The custom officers and their minions used to stop the goods truck from passing the gate. Even after presenting the required papers, they used to delay in processing it. The gate closes in the late afternoon as that area is sensitive & the sun sets early in that part of country. To make the process faster, our dealer had to pay bribe to the people out there. Sometimes we have paid more than 8000/- to transfer one car from Assam to Tripura. The entire process there is corrupt.

I have left the company, and after demonetization I thought that the corruption might have been stalled. But to my surprise, I came to know from the dealerships (with whom I am in touch) that those people are now asking for bribes in the denomination of 1000, new 500 & 2000 notes.

Please do something
