I needed to get a copy of my wife's birth certificate as we had lost the original. The website was very helpful in identifying her records and I was asked to come to the office to submit an application. As we had to leave the country at a short notice, I mentioned to the officer that we would like to know how long this takes and if there is any way to speed things up. having been out of the country for a while, I did not realize this was an invitation to the officer to demand a bribe. He said he will try but I need to "take care of him" when the work gets done.
The next day I collected my certificate but the officer ignored me till I paid up the 200 rupees.
