It takes all of Rs 2500 or so to get a metered electricity connection, but I had to shell out Rs15000 to get the connection for the flat we were moving into. It was done through a retired electricity department JE who works after retirement in our society. He openly said that you can forget about the connection if you wont pay to him for his cut, and the cut to be passed to the electricity department. Or else you try on your own and see what happens. Desperate to get the flat lighted, I had to shell out 15K and even after that faced many weeks of delays in getting the meter, meter box, pay to the electrician for the wires used to connect the meter and finally to get the meter installed. This all should have been Free of cost.
